The climate can be described as tropical with the exception of the mountainous areas which have more of a temperate atmosphere. Although it varies depending on the altitude, the temperature ranges from a hot and humid 90 degrees (32 degrees Celsius) to a low of 68 degrees (20 degrees Celsius). Rainy season (our Winter) in general is from May to September. The cooler months are December and January usually maintaining a temperature of about 73 degrees (23 degrees Celsius).
Honduras has white sandy beaches leading up to the bright blue ocean overlooked by the pine tree covered mountains. This habitat is the perfect home for a variety of birds, reptiles, plants, fish, and some mammals, including species like the Toucans and Bottlenose dolphins. There are other natural resources such as timber, gold, silver, copper, lead, zinc, iron ore, antimony, coal, fish, shrimp, dairy products and hydropower which make Honduras the most open economy in Central America. The most important export is coffee, followed by clothing (made in Industrial Parks), fruits and nuts, shrimp and lobster, wood products, and tobacco. Its neighboring areas are El Salvador, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Pacific Ocean, and Caribbean Sea. Honduras is also known for the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System which is the largest coral reef in the American Continent. It begins at the tip of the Yucatan Peninsula down to the Bay Islands, this means it covers a distance of about 621 miles (1000 km).
