This has been one of the busiest months of the year. We began the water project at El Arca property at the beginning of March. One of the first things we started was the installation of the electrical posts to carry the energy to the well site. This is where the pump and electrical distribution panel will be located. We also started digging the ground to install the water distribution pipes on the entire property (33 acres). This will take a long time, but we believe that it will be done by the end of April.
Our three zones are very active. The Southern zone (Choluteca) had their Women’s Conference, which was attended by over 100 participants. I took a trip there, and the government is building the new international road. What used to take me two hours, now takes five. At this time, the North zone is planning a youth conference and working to expand the work with children. In the Danli zone, we started English classes for our youth group at the San Cristóbal Church. We also opened the doors of our Church to teaching literacy to many adults from the community. These are people that cannot write or read but now because of our ministry have the opportunity to learn. The teachers are high school seniors. It is very exciting to see all the new ministries that we have. I spent a good part of March in New England participating in many activities of Mission Honduras. Thank you so much for being an investor in the Lord's Kingdom in Honduras. PRAISES: 1. Thankful for all of the funds received for the water system. 2. For my visit to New England. 3. For the growth in our ministry. PRAYER REQUESTS: 1. For funds for 3 pastoral scholarships ($60 per month). 2. Funds for El Arca Dormitories 3. For missionary Hector Newman’s living expenses (short $750 each month) Dr. Hector Newman Executive Director On February 19th, the mission team of 11 people led by Pastor Wendy Kiefer- O’Brien and Richard Waterman from Greenville, RI , arrived in San Pedro Sula. Their week was very busy with a full work itinerary.
On Monday, February 20th, the short-term mission team joined Pastor Humberto Hernandez and his team at the Cofradia Church to start what was a very fruitful week. There were many ways to participate in the Lord’s work; some helped dig the foundation for a needed room, others distributed toys and clothing to the poor, pastors, and families. The other team members taught the children arts and crafts and how to make crosses and necklaces. People from the local community were fed by the provision of hundreds of sandwiches made for them by the team. With funds brought by the team, materials were bought for the roof and the rest of the church construction. On Wednesday, February 22nd, we were very excited and on our way for a worship service at Dos Caminos Church when at an intersection a motorcyclist didn’t make a stop and hit our bus. The devil wanted to rob our joy and peace! However, after a half hour dealing with the situation we were able to arrive at the church. We had a very blessed service with a vibrant message by pastor Wendy. During the week the mission team from Rhode Island had the opportunity to worship in three of our churches, which included the Manacales, Cofradia and Dos Caminos church. On Thursday, February 23rd, the complete roof was installed. Praise The Lord! The Cofradia Church, which has a capacity for 250, now has a roof cover. A lot of hard work and dedication went into its installation. That same night we had our first service at this church building and enjoyed worshipping under the brand new roof. Richard Waterman shared a very blessed message with the congregation. This month, we also celebrated the baptisms of 10 young people. All of them were baptized after taking their discipleship classes. It is wonderful to see them serving in our churches. We continue to evangelize our young generation, which forms the new church for the 21st Century. We are so grateful for Greenville Baptist Church of Greenville, RI, who scheduled many activities this past 2016 to raise funds. They raised thousands of dollars selling hamburgers, soup, hot dogs, t-shirts and more. Most of that money was sent during the year for the church project and the rest was used during their recent February mission trip. They have been and continue to be committed in the proactive assistance of helping build their sister church in Cofradia, Cortes, Honduras. PRAISES: 1. Thankful for the blessings the Rhode Island missions team brought to us. 2. For the brand new roof installed in the Cofradia Church. 3. For the gospel of love shared by the Greenville Baptist Church. 4. For our Pastoral Training student Delmer Rodriguez. PRAYER REQUESTS: 1. For funds for 3 pastoral scholarships ($60/month each) 2. For our goal of planting 3 new churches this year. 3. For missionary Hector Newman’s living expenses (short $750 each month) Dr. Hector Newman Executive Director On January 12th the first mission’s team of the year landed in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. 9 short-term missionaries from Massachusetts led by Dr. David Kilpatrick and Judy Margetts arrived ready to serve the people of Honduras. On Friday the 13th, they divided their work into different teams. Some of them painted the school, others were sorting clothing, other were distributing clothing and school materials at the Newman school.
After three days of hard work they left our school looking brand new. Friday night we had a special service with all of our pastors and leaders that arrived for our Annual National Pastoral and leaders Conference. In evening the team met with them and the San Cristobal congregation at the worship service. Dr. Kilpatrick preached a very challenging message for the New Year. On Saturday the 14th, we had a well attended Annual National Pastoral and Leaders Conference. The rest of the weekend, the group had the opportunity to worship and to give away clothing, toys and school materials at the Bellavista and Los Robles churches. On Monday the 16th, the mission’s team moved from the city Danli to El Arca where the group distributed and handed out clothing, toys and school materials to children and poor families. David Ritchie, Gary Ellinger and Dr. Kilpatrick worked on building a picnic table for the Newman family. They went to various local hardware stores to get the wood and other materials. After two days the beautiful picnic table was completed! Judy, who is the Newman School Scholarship Director, had a very busy time meeting the parents and children who currently have scholarships. She also met with new students that are in need of scholarships for this school year. One of the children is Walter, he is 11 years old and about to start 6th grade. He comes from a very poor family. Al Velasquez a member of the mission’s team heard his story and immediately connected with him. He met Walter and his family and right away spoke with Judy and me. He decided to sponsor him and went to our school office and paid his enrollment tuition for the year. We are so thankful with the mission team and for the good work they did. Their generosity and love expressed to our people were not only in words but also in action and faith. God Bless! Praises: 1. Thankful for the blessings that the January mission’s team brought to us. 2. For the new associate pastor at the San Cristobal Church in Danli (Pastor Jose Andino and his family). 3. For Gloria Sanchez, who is the new pastor for Manacales Church in Villanueva, Cortes. She is Juan Sanchez wife, our Supervisor in the North Coast. 4. For the new baptistry that was built at el Arca Property. Donations were provided by May Chan, Betsy Goeke and Dr. David Kilpatrick. Instead of the polluted rivers our churches will now use this baptistry. PRAYER REQUESTS: 1. For the mission team from Rhode Island, that will be here from February 19- 25, 2017. They will be continuing the construction work at their sister church in Cofradia, Cortes - Honduras. 2. For funds for 3 pastoral scholarships ($60 per month). 3. For our goal of planting 3 new churches in our ministry this year. Also, that God may provide the ideal pastors for those congregations. 4. For our Missionary Hector Newman’s living expenses ($750/month) Dr. Hector Newman Executive Director |
